Club Overview

The Sarasota Lawn Bowling Club is a fully affiliated member of the SE Division of Bowls USA, and is a registered non-profit 501(c)(3) organization.

We are currently in the process of relocating from our long time address in downtown Sarasota, Florida at 809 North Tamiami Trail (Hwy 41). The new location will open Q4 2023 at the Bobby Jones Golf Course.

Bowlers of all levels of experience are welcome, and we welcome bowlers from all over the USA and the world, with our current membership including Americans, Canadians, New Zealanders, Scottish, English, Irish, Welsh and other European countries, many being seasonal “snow birds”.

Normally, the club operates to two seasons annually, the Fall/Winter Season (normally November – April) and the Spring/Summer Season (normally May – October). Bowling takes place day and night at SLBC as we have floodlights available on our green for evening/night bowling.

The club has year-long open bowling activities, which are detailed on our Open Bowls page. During the main winter season, there are additionally club tournaments, inter-club invitational (open) competitions, and fun bowling events. Details of these are on our Tournaments page.

See our Calendar page for more details or restrictions.

For beginners this exciting outdoor sport is easy to learn and we offer free lessons. Just bring flat soled shoes. No partner needed.

We look forward to your visit, when the new green opens next season. (2023-2024)

Club History

The Sarasota Lawn Bowling Club remains one of the oldest, historic sports clubs in Florida, and was established in 1927. This was the same year that Charles Lindbergh made the first powered flight across the Atlantic Ocean from New York to Paris, work was started on building Mount Rushmore, Stalin took control of Russia, the world’s first transatlantic telephone call was made, Ford began selling the A-Model, and the first “talkie” movie – The Jazz Singer – was released, signaling the end of the silent-movie era! A truly historic time!

In 1934, a private group deeded the City of Sarasota the 42 acres to the city to maintain and keep the land for recreational use and the club moved its greens from McAnsh Park. Today the Garden Club, Memorial Auditorium and the Lawn Bowling Club have an historical designation with the US Government and are the three oldest tenants on the property. Few clubs or businesses have been in our community as long as the bowling club.
